Cynthia Munro (now Marks) graduated from Carleton in 1957 and went on to study printmaking at the University of Iowa. Her prints, including Hot Hat-Cool Gaze, embody the rich visual impressions produced by Iowa printmakers under the guidance of Mauricio Lasansky, who headed the University fine arts graduate program. This intaglio print deploys dynamic lines in etching and drypoint, and vivid color areas to represent a modish young woman. Over forty years after Marks pulled this print from the press, Hot Hat-Cool Gaze reads as a delightful reminder of the stylish sixties.

Carleton bought two prints from Marks in 1963 for circulation through the Art Rental Program. In 2007, she donated a further group of prints to the college on the occasion of her 50th class reunion. Marks lives in Larchmont, New York.
