First famous for his role in pioneering Cubism, Picasso continued to experiment throughout his long life. In many ways the embodiment of Modernism, Picasso was also very much at home with the classical tradition. Fete des Faunes, presenting the raucous revels of these hybrid creatures, is characteristic of the artist’s energetic and personal approach to mythology.
This print, executed by the artist in the aftermath of the Second World War, was published by the newspaper "Le Patriot" in Nice, France, to raise funds for the communist party.
